SCOLIOSIS THERAPY & Early Detection

Early detection and scoliosis-specific therapies for children, adolescents and adults

GOAL OF SCOLIOSIS THERAPY

Scoliosis is a curvature and/or twisting of the spine, often with visible poor posture and associated chronic, sometimes severe back pain and mobility restrictions. The type of therapy is always individually adapted depending on the type of scoliosis and the severity of the curvature.

My goal is to stop the progression of the misalignment or, in severe cases, to straighten the curvature surgically.

Particularly in children and adolescents before they have finished growing, very good and lasting treatment results can be achieved through non-surgical therapies. In adults, the focus is on eliminating or alleviating the symptoms, which I can treat very individually and successfully through my extensive range of therapies.

Scoliosis Early Detection Brochure

Daniela Hohenwarter, the founder of the Scoliosis Network Austria and herself affected by scoliosis, has created this  free information brochure on the early detection of scoliosis in close cooperation with Spine- & Scoliosis Specialist Sr. Physician Dr. Nadja Jiresch.

The aim of this brochure is to highlight the importance and urgency of  early detection of scoliosis. The brochure is aimed at parents and acts as a first source of information and a guide that should be provided to parents, particularly by the school doctor and medical and therapeutic professionals, when scoliosis is suspected in their child.

Parents receive valuable information about  idiopathic scoliosis as well as a “roadmap” that guides them through the various phases – starting with the first signs, through the diagnostic discussion, to the treatment options.

Note: The Scoliosis Network Austria makes a major contribution to educating and helping those affected. Please support the Scoliosis Network Austria with a donation or membership so that this important initiative can continue. Thank you for your help!

How is scoliosis treated?

  • less than 10° & scoliotic curvature: 1 - 2 x annual check-up
  • 10° to 20°: Physiotherapy
  • 20° to 45°: corset/girdle and physiotherapy
  • over 45°: surgery

Note: Patients with scoliosis should come for regular check-ups. The earlier treatment is started, the more effectively the progression of the disease can be prevented. Sport and exercise alone cannot stop scoliosis and are no substitute for scoliosis-specific therapy. However, they are useful as an accompanying measure.
